Hi Kirk, fantastic BLOG, you have helped me no end.. just wondering if I can pick your brain for some further help!

I have an exchange 2007 server, it has an external host name of owa7.expect.com

I followed your proceedure, and brilliant! I get no more errors when accessing via OWA, either on our network, or from the outside world.

The problem I now have, is, internally, this server is known as expect-exchange.w2008.co.uk (w2008.co.uk being our internal AD domain)..

So.. when my users access via Outlook 2007, they now get a certificate error, because of the different name on the certificate.

I have tried to create an additonal certificate, and chosen not to over write the one used by OWA, but no joy.. it seems I can only have a certificate for one method of access, or the other.. any ideas?

Much Appreciated.

Hi vhii - The CN should be the domain name you are going to use to connect to your server when you are not on your local network. Any fully qualified domain name should work. mail.domain.com is great, as long as you own domain.com and the mail sub domain points to the IP address of your server. The certificate will not effect OWA.

Let me know if things work out for you!

Ah! vhii - you do need to generate a new certificate for Outlook Anywhere to work. Here's the command

New-ExchangeCertificate -PrivateKeyExportable $True -Services “IMAP, POP, IIS, SMTP” -SubjectName “cn=[*SEE NOTE]”

*Note: this needs to be the exact name of the external domain you are going to use to access Outlook Anywhere.

So your cn should be exchange01.domain.com. The basic cert they generate won't work because of the domain name mismatch.

Hope this helps!
